Establishing a Trauma Responsive Classroom Part 2–Virtual Training

September 29, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Establishing a Trauma Responsive Classroom Part 2 with Shannon Meyer and Mandy Bailey

A trauma informed classroom is a “safe and respectful environment that enables students to build caring relationships with adults and peers, self-regulate their emotions and behaviors, and academically succeed while supporting their physical health and well-being” (clinicalscholars.org).  The number of children who have experienced trauma is alarming.  According to Virtual Lab School, “it is estimated that 1 out of every 4 children has been exposed to trauma in some capacity, so it’s likely that you will be working with children and families that have experienced or are currently experiencing trauma.” With statistics being this high it is very likely providers will have children in their care that have experienced trauma.  By learning how to create a Trauma Informed classroom, providers can learn how to create a safe space for children while giving them the support and tools to cope with their emotions.
