Gateways to Opportunity Credentials
School teachers have it, nurses have it, hair dressers have it, and plumbers have it! Almost all occupations in the United States require their workforce to become certified to be part of the profession. It is time for our field to be recognized as a profession with an established body of knowledge and defined skills.
Illinois is working hard to increase professional development standards by validating the education and experience of those who work directly with, intend to work with, and/or work on behalf of children ages birth through twelve.
Gateways to Opportunity is proud to offer five credentials:
- ECE Credential
- ECE Level One Credential
- Infant Toddler Credential
- Illinois Director Credential
- ISAY (Illinois School Age & Youth) Level One Credential
Gateways to Opportunity credentials recognize and validate educational accomplishments of early care, school-age, and youth development professionals. Credentials help improve the quality of care for the future of Illinois.
Gateways to Opportunity Credentials were signed into law by Governor Patrick Quinn in January 2010. Credentials are awarded by the Illinois Department of Human Services, Bureau of Child Care and Development, to those who have achieved a high level of experience, skill, and knowledge in the field of Early Care and Education, School-Age, and Youth Development.
